"Bucket List"

So, three posts in one day... I suppose I have had a lot on my mind. On a lighter subject than my last post, I wanted to throw out the idea of a "bucket list" that my friends and I have come up with (okay, it's not too original, but it should keep us occupied for a while).  Freshman year already slipped through our fingers, so we have decided to make the most of out time as poor, penniless college students. What else are you supposed to do when you have no real responsibilities other than making sure you graduate? As this list begins to be undertaken, I will post pictures and write about our experiences.

Listed below is a sampling of our ideas:
1) drive to Canada for a weekend
...
3) attempt to "pole dance" haha that one should be interesting
...
6)alternative spring break
...
11) road trip to Niagara Falls!
12) go to Alaska!
13) Organize a fundraiser
14) learn the dance to "All the Single Ladies"

So, some of them are lame, some are crazy, and some are just based on curiosity, but it will be something to do for the next 3 years to make our experience memorable.

Mosque building site near Ground Zero

Ok, so this is the topic of an article from my Anthropology of the Middle East class. Reading this is actually what got me started on the idea of actually writing a blog. Let me preface this post with a warning, I have very little political knowledge, and most likely an uneducated opinion of the subject, but that doesn't mean I won't share it. I understand that the country was greatly hurt with the September 11th attacks. It was a horrific event that shook everyone in the nation. That being said, I find it difficult to believe that a strong amount of people in this country believe it to be acceptable to blame a whole religion for the attacks. The fact that individuals cannot accept a people wishing to practice their freedom of religion makes me a bit upset. This nation was founded on the idea of certain freedoms. Obviously we have had many issues following these founding ideas in the past, but the idea that people can be so ignorant as to blame an entire religion on the attack against our nation is hurtful. By doing this, we are allowing our nation to be represented as intolerant, ignorant, closed minded individuals. I do not know all of the facts, but I do know that this new construction near Ground Zero is to be a community center of sorts. There are already Mosques down the street, and this is just supposed to be an expansion of what is already there. I understand that people are sensitive about the issue, but they should really try to understand that is wasn't the Muslim religion that hurt the country and caused so much pain, it was a radical group. I know there is much controversy on the subject, but I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in.

Starting this whole thing...

As I enter my sophomore year, I wonder: how often do I actually think about things going on in my life and in the world around me? Far too often I find myself overlooking what's happening around me because I'm too "busy" (aka checking facebook too many times and slacking on my homework) to write down what I think about daily happenings, occurrences in the country, and things happening through the world. It is now my goal to write on this page at least 3 times a week if to do nothing more than record my college experience. So I guess here I go...
